Important: When you open an existing library in X9.3 and later, it will create a converted version for use with this new database engine. The original library will not be changed, so you can continue using it with X9.2 or earlier. Alternatively, use Sync to move your data across systems and versions.
As you may be aware, Apple has released macOS 10.15 Catalina. Apple has made the decision to drop all 32-bit application support with this release, which impacted EndNote X9 for Mac and in the end also EndNote X9 for Windows. You can read more at Apple’s knowledge base article here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436.
Starting with EndNote X9.3.x if your end users open a library, EndNote will ask you to convert your library to the new X9.3.x format. Although the existing library will not be touched, it is wise to prepare for the conversion to avoid any conversion hiccups BEFORE UPDATING OR UPGRADING ENDNOTE TO VERSION X9.3.x. Read the recommended pre-conversion steps here.
Automatically Update
Mac: In EndNote X9, under the “EndNote X9” menu, choose “Check for Updates…”.
April 28, 2020-- EndNote X9.3.3 is now available for Mac.
The EndNote X9.3.3 Mac (Bld: 15659) update contains:
- Resolved a problem where renamed file attachments would not update during sync
- Issue importing PDFs using Kopernio on Firefox has been resolved
- Corrected issues with free text entry and note text color when annotating PDFs
- Conversion issue for legacy libraries without Group Sets is resolved
- Resolved issue with syncing Group Sets, Groups, and File Attachments in read-only shared libraries
- Other minor bug fixes
If another user has shared a library with you in Read-only mode via your EndNote Online account and you have issues after the update of EndNote X9.3.1, X9.3.2 or X9.3.3, please close the shared library or libraries. Then navigate to the folder that caches the shared library, which is on a Mac
~/Library/Application Support/EndNote/Libraries
(since the folder is hidden: Open a Finder window and hold the Alt key when you press on 'Go' in the Finder menu bar, you see Library folder in the list now)
Rename and/or remove the subfolder(s) inside. Start EndNote, open the shared library via 'File > Open Shared Library' and sync again.
