EndNote 20 for Windows released

EndNote 20 for Windows released

Important: Based on our 20 years of experience in software, we know that with every major version release there will be almost always some minor updates soon (e.g. version 20.0.1). Therefore, please consider carefully if and when you would like to switch from your current version X9.x (or lower version) to the new EndNote 20. EndNote 20 is only compatible with Windows 10.x (or higher). We are expecting the release of EndNote 20 for Mac later in December.

When you open an existing library in X9.3 and later, it will create a converted version for use with this new database engine. The original library will not be changed, so you can continue using it with X9.2 or earlier. Alternatively, use Sync to move your data across systems and versions.

October 29, 2020-- EndNote 20, Accelerate your Research

EndNote X9.3.3 for Windows released

Important: When you open an existing library in X9.3 and later, it will create a converted version for use with this new database engine. The original library will not be changed, so you can continue using it with X9.2 or earlier. Alternatively, use Sync to move your data across systems and versions.

As you may be aware, Apple has released macOS 10.15 Catalina. Apple has made the decision to drop all 32-bit application support with this release, which impacted EndNote X9 for Mac and in the end also EndNote X9 for Windows. You can read more at Apple’s knowledge base article here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208436.

Starting with EndNote X9.3.x if your end users open a library, EndNote will ask you to convert your library to the new X9.3.x format. Although the existing library will not be touched, it is wise to prepare for the conversion to avoid any conversion hiccups BEFORE UPDATING OR UPGRADING ENDNOTE TO VERSION X9.3.x. Read the recommended pre-conversion steps here.

April 14, 2020-- EndNote X9.3.3 is now available for Windows.

If another user has shared a library with you in Read-only mode via your EndNote Online account and you have issues after the update of EndNote X9.3.1, X9.3.2 or X9.3.3, please close the shared library or libraries. Then navigate to the folder that caches the shared library, which is in a Windows environment

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\EndNote\Libraries
(since the folder is hidden: Open a Widows Explorer window and click the 'View' menu item and check the 'Hidden items' and 'File name extensions' check boxes)

Rename and/or remove the subfolder(s) inside. Start EndNote, open the shared library via 'File > Open Shared Library' and sync again.
